Mark Blaudschun announced on Twitter he's leaving Boston Globe after 25 years. Writing for his own site, ajerseyguy.com, with an interview with former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese among his first posts. Sorry to see him go but glad he's still writing.

Mark was an outstanding colleague. Will never forget that when as junior Patriots beat writers for the Globe and Herald respectively, we had Christmas dinner together at the Holiday Inn in Vero Beach because the Pats were training for a Monday Night game with the Dolphins in Dodgertown. We lowered the median age of the clientele by 20 years easy.
He did an excellent job writing about college sports despite knowing damn well very few Globe readers gave a damn about them.

I've known Mark for many years -- 30 maybe? -- and he is a well-rounded reporter able to handle any assignment, and handle it professionally and accurately. The Globe will miss him.

While working at the Dallas Morning News (during the Dave Smith Dynasty) and covering an Oklahoma football game, Blaudschun filed a game story with the lede: "Oklahoma, where the wins come sweeping across the plains ..."

An editor with little imagination but a firm grasp of the style book noted the DMN used "victory" as a noun instead of "win." Yep.

"Oklahoma, where the victories come sweeping across the plains ..."

Classic.

Best of luck to Mark.
