Rick, how many times have we gone on sohh and spoken on the idiocy of some of the members there?

some of you guys are doing the very thing we often fight against as black men. I'm disqualified to speak because I carry the burden of idiots who happen to look like me, and in this case, post on the same messageboard as me.

Incredible.

Big chee get the chip off you shoulder and come back when you want to have a discussion instead of a fight.

mr - at the risk of sounding trite I sincerly applaud your willingness and effort to try and show those kids a positive role model. It's what all kids need more of. If there is posts that you find offensive on sohh why not call the posters out and tell them what is wrong with their posts?

I think you answered me indirectly but are you offended when posters toss around the "N" word? I was raised in enviroment that taught me that it was a word of hate. I must admit when I hear or read of someone using it I am shocked.

because you dont always have to call someone out. if i do that, then ill more than likely be met with resistance. i learned from john demartini that no 2 people have the same value system. and thats ok. but when you put your values above someone else's then you are care-"less". and again, its the internet. do you think that you guys blasting sportsbruh at every turn has changed him at all?

as far as the "N" word. its something that blacks and whites will never agree on. do i like it? nope. do i use it, at times. yep. do i understand why its used and the history as to why blacks have adopted it? resoundingly yes. its an oppositional identity. you (not you in particular) give it a negative meaning, to degrade me........i take it, turn it around, use it as a term of endearment and i have taken all of the negative power away from it. same thing with "man". you call us "boy", we call each other "man". again, i think its time to move away from it. although, it is funny to watch others complain that they cant use it when referring to blacks :) but its not as simple as a "No N-word" borough. its deeply rooted in a culture that pre-dates hip hop by a long time....

I've read all those explanations of oppositional identity and understand it but it still sounds awful when you see or hear the word. I think you lose more than you gain by its use. It might have been Richard Pryor who started the trend to use it as term of endearment.

You obviously haven't read James Baldwin. It's use has been prevalent in our community for years. Our generation didn't invent its abuse.

Maybe the combination of your passive approach and Whitlock's scorched earth plan is not all that bad. Your approaches are different but it does not seem like you guys ae as far apart as it might seem.

i disagree. i would think that che and i form a more symbiotic pair. with him being more "in your face" and i being more "subtle". the reason being, that we are gaining nothing in our diatribes on this board and in life, other than doing the work necessary for change and understanding. we're working for the same goal. and if it turns out that we are malcolm and martin......thats fine. (and lord knows, i would never compare myself or he, to those legendary civil rights leaders. unlike some that write columns for aol. perhaps good cop/bad cop. or whatever you feel comfortable with.) as long as the word is heard. whitlock, and he is free to correct me (rather than sit on the sidelines and change the title at his whim), is nothing more than a self-serving blowhard. thats how i see it from here.....

you see, when he said "i doubt mavrick is a doctor".....that said all that needs to be said. i was judged because 1)i disagreed with him and 2)i floated over here from a hip hop message board. how is that any different from the racists that judge me because of my skin color and the way i choose to dress? exactly.......

Good point. I guess Jason is busy this weekend; maybe we could help him out:

--Boom=kitten; SOHH=ball of yarn.
--Whitlock comments on Simmons commenting on Scoop commenting on Whitlock commenting on All-Star Weekend3

but alas.........

so i have 1 vote for mil's beast. any others?????

No. If I'm going to drink cheap beer, it's not gonna be the Beast. I'll take Old Style.

Mad Dog was the first booze I drank, when I was 15. Nothing like throwing up in the sink in front of mom.

Every beer named so far is nasty. But not as nasty as Natty.

But Natty's nastiness is nothing compared to Keystone Light.

It's a beer. Served at Wrigley, along with Special Export. Go to Wrigleyville. It's all over the place.

Oh, and for the record ... all these beers taste like ass. But carry on. :D

Done a lot of rimjobbing, buckdub? :P :D

I can't speak from experience, but I have a feeling that a rim job would probably taste better than some of the 50-cent beers listed. ::)

In all fairness, Old Style is at least a 75-cent beer.

Ahh OLd Smile....
In college, Cubbies on WGN, suffering through Milo Hamilton since Harry Carey was still doing the White Sox... two buck pitchers of Old Style at the Knollwood Tavern... good times...
