What year will we see these types of awards going to writers whose body of work largely (if not entirely) has been crafted for the Internet, rather than newspapers?

When the voters no longer work in print.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the only person in focus in that picture is **** Anderson. Conlin is a fuzzy ball in the middle.

****. Poor.

And it has AP's stamp on it. WTF

The photo is in focus. That's just how Bill looks. 8)

Kudos to a great baseball man. Not many around like Conlin. Congratulations.

At least you're consistent. I recall you making the argument that Conlin was top of the heap because the more baseball games you've watched, clearly the more you know about baseball.

WTF? I've never made such a statement. If I did, show me.
ANYONE who has covered baseball knows about Bill Conlin. Most know that he's a student of the game and while he may not be the most gifted of writers and the best of reporters, he's been consistent throughout his career with providing excellent baseball coverage on a local and national level.
****, know what you are talking about before you post.

You absolutely said it. I'll find it.

Verducci is a better writer, Olney is better nuts-and-bolts and information gatherer.

100 percent right. Both are great, but I'd rather read a feature by Verducci, but if I want breaking news, I'd go to Olney.
It's all in the eye of the beholder. Neither knows more about baseball than Bill Conlin.

Please. That's just ridiculous. Both know far more about current baseball than Conlin and both know the game better.

Conlin might know some old stories about Pete Rose better because he's old but that's the extent of it. Bet you think Hal Bodley is well-informed, too.
Having worked with and been around all four, I'll stand by my original statement. I think the world of all four but for my taste, I prefer Conlin and Bodley.

Are you senile, too? Those guys might have been "cutting edge" back in '63 but neither of them is relevant in baseball these days.
Hardly senile. Conlin and McCoy know more about the game than Olney and Verducci. The difference is that Olney and Verducci are young enough that they can pal around the players. That's the only difference. Conlin and McCoy have seen more baseball than Olney and Verducci can dream about.
Again, it's preference. I like all four, I just prefer Conlin and McCoy. What's wrong with that?

"Top of the heap" = "I think the world of all four but for my taste, I prefer Conlin and Bodley."

I think Drip is allowed an opinion, and it is not like he is trashing the other writers.

And for the record, I'll wager Buckweaver's savant-like baseball knowledge against anyone.:)

Never said he was. He complimented Conlin here, and I recalled from a previous thread that he was a big Conlin admirer. I don't really know much about Conlin except he has a spotty Hall of Fame voting record.

And, I'd take Buster Olney over Conlin.
@ **** - Right, you don't know much about him so stay quiet until you learn more.
@eliotte - Buster has won me over with his zest and enthusiasm for the game.

Where did I criticize him?

Also, I will probably just go ahead and post when I want and on what topics and not wait for your signal.

Post all you want. I encourage it. I prefer you don't try to strike up an argument with me until you get your facts straight. Your first post was inaccurate.

I didn't strike up an argument with you, paranoid. I noted that you have been a consistent supporter of Conlin.
