Frank Oz created Bert, but not Ernie? Am I the only one who would find it surprising that they weren't created by the same person?

Here is a link to an article with more of what Oz had to say.

Are Bert and Ernie gay? Legendary puppeteer Frank Oz weighs in

It sounds like some people were giving him a hard time for setting the record straight. (Bad pun noted, but not intended.) He makes a good point. Somebody asked why it is important to say that they aren't gay.

"When a character is created to be queer it is indeed important that the character be known as such. It is also important when a character who was not created queer, be accepted as such," Oz wrote.

Silly character creator. How dare he make honesty a priority?

Oz wasn’t quite so tolerant with Emmitt Fitz Hume.

IIRC, Mr. Oz helped two brothers quickly pay off some taxes while on a mission from God.

Edit- he held on to some belongings for one of them.

The Odd Couple was a very popular Broadway play right before SS hit the air. SS is made in NYC.

That’s probably a better explanation.

Bert and Ernie are both characters in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life."

Discuss.

Yeah, I thought this all came out like 4 years ago.

It came out when Mitt Romney (I think that's correct) talked about defunding PBS and NPR or something like that. Bert and Ernie were part of the media **** show (propaganda push). I'll go ask Vladimir. He'll remember.

Considering that Big Bird was the star of the show for 30 years (until the little red menace horned in) and lived in a nest outside, I suspect Bert and Ernie live together because the rent is too damned high.

Of course, the "Bert and Ernie are really gay" thing is a big part of the plot of "Avenue Q," though in that one Nicky (basically Ernie) is straight and Rod (Bert) is a closeted Republican type.
