Folks,

During an Internet surf session, I came across the list of stories that will be published in the 2006 edition of the Best American Sports Writing anthology. I figured the board would be interested.

Best,

Mike Sielski

I'm looking forward to it. Aside from Gary Smith and S. L. Price, it's not necessarily the usual suspects on the list. That's always a good thing.

Is that the same Pat Jordan both times? Two different publications? Is he/she a freelance writer?

Ms Cadet,

Pat Jordan's stuff has been excellent for years, right back to A False Spring, a memoir about his time a baseball bonus baby. His last book--I'm presuming it's his last--a few years back was ostensibly about an attempt to come back to baseball but had way too much about his love of cigars, his sex life and scores to settle. A big disappointment but shouldn't weight too heavily in his body of work. He has written for the NYT mag for several years. I didn't see the Atlantic piece (I don't buy it as regularly as I used to) but I try to read anything he ever puts on a page. He'd probably be a hell of a guy to have a beer with.

BTW, somebody told me that the "notable list" from 2006 BASW was out. Does anybody know where to find it?

YHS, etc

It would be nice if APSE would supply the names of the stories of its winners, not just the names of the authors, so that we could independently find the links like this for those stories, as well, which often operate much more closely within the parameters that most of us have to work with. Can't see that that would be too difficult or time-consuming.

Well done, Sports Predictor. Well done.

For however long it took you to do that, I say thanks.

Anyone dig up the "notable sports writing of 2005," where the majority of us would be more likely to land?

Check out Streeter's story...remembered reading it when it first appeared. Very, very enjoyable piece of journalism. Damn good read.

I just clicked on the link and spent the next 45 minutes engrossed in the story. Amazing writing and reporting.

Who is Pamela Colloff?

And, damn, Pat Jordan can still bring it.
