Didn't even know Coppock was still on the air:

Chet Coppock is the latest to suffer from this dreaded malady. WMVP-AM 1000 has suspended the veteran sportscaster until Feb. 23 after he made an offensive remark about Jews on his show Feb. 2.

During an exchange with Ben Finfer, Coppock was asked to spell Jewish. He replied, "Money, M-O-N-E-Y."

A local taste.

Much like Cowherd, pre-Cowherd.

Overbearing.

Funny, but very offensive on the air. Has Chester Coppock finally lost it in Chicago??

Included in Jay Marriotti's take on the episode:
I could make an aggressive case that Coppock be fired, knowing WMVP is owned and operated by ESPN, a company that demands good taste and high ethics and won't stand for deplorable dreck.

What ****ing planet has this guy been living on?

Let me guess, the same planet in which he's getting paid to talk like an idiot for 30 minutes...by ESPN.

What a hypocrite. TJ Simers should be laughing his ass off after reading what Jay wrote.

Why on earth would anyone include anything from Jay Mariotti and think it could possibly an argument worth anybody on this board's time?

Was just about to post the same thing. Mariotti couldn't possibly be more hypocritical in this situation.

I'd like to see the whole Jay-bird piece.

Surely, he was being sarcastic. Had to be . . right? Right?

Maybe the Sun-Times ran out of blue font?

I knew Chet when his face covered that entire building across from East Bank...he'd parade around town in a full length fur coat. He was the only game in town, before sports talk became so huge, and some upstart little station knocked him off the air.

I guess if '**** Jesus' merits a week's suspension from espn, this should cost ariound the same.

Wrong.

More. Coppock has a history of inappropriate behavior.

Yep, saw it in the Journalism wing of our local thinktank, and commented appropriately, further, there.

Wrong.

What's amazing to me is you can be a minority and be caught smoking crack or sending unscrupulouts e-mails, and not be in danger of losing your job -- even if you're the mayor of a major metropolitan city.

But be white and let a faux pas slip out and you're labeled for life.

Yep. The minorities have it so good. Damned White Persecution. ::)

I'm amazed this slap is still on the air. I can remember listening to him on AM 1000 back in the late 80s when I was a grade schooler surfing the AM band for something interesting before bed. He came off as an arrogant blowhard then and, by the looks of chetcoppock.com, nothing's changed.

It's about time someone stood up for the white guy. We just can't catch a break.

Yep . . . sure . . . like he's never been a boor on the air -- or off -- before, in his life.

Didn't he once get the **** kicked out of him while at a game?

Surely, a local or two can chime in . . .

Suspensions

WMVP suspended Coppock five shifts for an anti-Semitic remark during a February 2, 2008 broadcast.[2]

Coppock was previously suspended in the spring of 2007 for "dropping his pants in the presence of a female employee."[3]

[edit] News

On February 14, 2007, Coppock was attacked in the parking lot following a DePaul University basketball game in Rosemont, Illinois[4][5]. Jaime A. Waldron of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was found guilty of battery after pleading not guilty. Waldron was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and ordered to pay court costs.[6]
