All-Purpose Fantasy Baseball 2018 thread

I actually have some hope for Giolito this season. Could be a great flier pick.

Had my final draft last night. Shallow 10-teamer with 22-man rosters, picking second overall. We could keep 1 IF, 1 OF, 1 P. I kept Turner and Bellinger (OF eligibility helped there). I opted not to keep a pitcher since McCullers was my best hurler. This way I got to begin picking second in the third round, rather than waiting until ninth in the fourth round. Wound up with this:

Those are some middling outfielders, but that's what's going to happen when you put together an infield like yours. You really are going to be short on saves.

In general, I don't prioritize saves (probably to a bit of a detriment), but my other leagues count holds, so it's not as big of an issue there. On at least three occasions last night, I had an RP I was targeting get picked just before me and I didn't want to reach too far to get a different one when more reliable and better players were available. Unfortunately, that meant that I missed out pretty badly on closers.

As usual, though, there will be some turnover at the position, so hopefully I'm able to jump first on some of them.

I never draft more than two closers. Rather take a chance on an extra starter. Have Kimbrel-Hand and Diaz-Allen in my leagues. Almost certainly will end up shuffling through a few other guys in each league before it’s all over.

Small rant, but this stuff drives me nuts.

The first games are almost upon us and some teams still have players expected to miss weeks, or even months, on the disabled list. I really hate those teams right now. (I'm talking about you, Mets and Dodgers. Justin Turner isn't suddenly going to heal enough to play this week, dammit!)

This crap should have come to an end with the move to a 10-day disabled list.

I’m with you. I cannot even put Bird on the DL right now, and he’s out at least 6-8 weeks. Drives me off the wall. Luckily, I was able to put Mad Bum on the DL.

Bird is officially on the DL now. It depends on which stat service you use. Fantrax has him on the DL. I'm not sure about CBS or Yahoo.

In my league on CBS, I have Conforto, who the Mets put on the DL today. CBS hasn't caught up yet, so I can't replace him.

We can draft 1 player from each team, make zero changes during the season, and see how it all shakes out at the end. As you can imagine it's not so easy when you have teams like the Astros and Dodgers and Yankees and a few others with several elite players. We can have no more than 4 relievers either.

No big deal, but I feel like maybe I was too impatient with him, which is now making me question whether it would be too impatient to bag Ian Happ.

Happ has been straight up awful, with inconsistent playing time. And, as awful as he's been, his .236 batting average has actually been aided by an unsustainable .419 BABIP. It seems likely things could actually get worse for him. That said, he showed real promise last year. Not sure if I've already been patient enough, or if I'd be making a mistake to drop him now.

It's pretty baffling to see how badly he's struggling. He's striking out nearly 50 percent of the time!

Insane. And he doesn't have the resume of a Giancarlo Stanton to fall back on. Still, every year there are players like this. Some turn it around and some don't. Hard to know if and when to pull the trigger. Same with long term injuries beyond the DL slots. I have a league with 5 DLed players and only 2 slots. There are a ton of variables - most important the depth of the league. Good luck; we're all going through it somehow.

Yep. Someone just dropped Corey Seager. I'm going to bid on him and see if I can lock him up cheap and stash him on the DL until next season. Only downside is we have pretty shallow rosters and only one DL slot (currently occupied by Daniel Murphy, who will hopefully return soon). Happ seems like the most likely candidate on my roster to get dropped, though. It would probably be between Happ, David Dahl or Jay Bruce (I tend to think Bruce will heat up, though).
