Politics ? The guy has been out of the public eye for 20 years. Why even mention.

I was a kid when Reagan was shot and Haig's announcement was the first time I realized that there are other people working at the White House. (I know, naive. But I was a kid).

I mention politics because I didn't want this shifting into a Republican/Democrat ****fest with Reagan-haters, etc. You know that it could, and I hope that it doesn't.

He was technically in charge until the VP returned. However, he stated at the time that he was third in line according to the Constitution, when in fact he was fifth. Numbers 3 and 4 would have to resign to assume the presidency, leaving Haig for the temporary gig.

Mizzou is correct. Haig was in charge, but not exactly for the reasons Haig stated.
