Star-Ledger, The Record, The Daily News, Times-Union of Albany and Buffalo News to begin sharing content.

Not sure yet what the full ramifications of this are. It should be made clearer by the end of the week.

Re: The Northeast Consortium

Fewer writers, editors and photographers, I guess. This is fine if you're in Buffalo or Albany but it seems like it would dilute the content offerings in each of the three formerly competing NYC area papers.

“We are excited to collaborate with these other papers,” Stephen Borg, Record publisher, stated in the release. “They excel in many areas. Record readers will benefit from expanded coverage. The Record will hopefully benefit the other papers in areas where we excel, like our coverage of the Meadowlands.”

There you go, no more expense reports with tunnel tolls.

The new group includes: The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J.; The Record of Hackensack, N.J.; the Times Union in Albany, N.Y.; The Buffalo (N.Y.) News; and the Daily News of New York, according to sources and a preliminary press release obtained by E&P.

The release, set to be released later today, states: “Five major newspapers in the northeast today announced an agreement to share editorial content.” It later adds that they have “formed the Northeast Consortium, a cooperative arrangement which will enhance each publication’s coverage in the region by exchanging articles, photographs and graphics among the newspapers.”

It states that the consortium will be in full sharing mode by May.

I'm not a fan of the idea but I'm for anything that will stop the bleeding.

I saw NE and was thinking, "The Globe, Herald, ProJo, Courant and, umm, umm"

I think we need to refrain from saying NY is NE; it's northeast, not New England.

Rant over

I initially thought Nebraska (postal abbreviation) because I'm closer to there than New England.

So Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, Scotsbluff and (instern another Neb. city here) aren't teaming up?

Impressed that you know more than Omaha and Lincoln. I had a friend call me after the Omaha mall shooting wondering if I was OK because he figured they were suburbs of one another.

Given the circumstances, I'm somewhat disappointed that it's survived this long. So no changes.

Re: The Northeast Consortium

I think it's going to cost people jobs.

Will Albany writers travel to anything in Jersey or Buffalo for college teams?

Will Albany just use NY Daily News copy on the Giants? (except may during training camp)?

Does Buffalo cut back on covering the state legislature and use Albany instead?

Interesting that Syracuse is not involved.
