Up a man at Azteca for more than 30 minutes against a team of exhausted lowlanders, and the best Mexico can do is lump crosses into a crowded box? Aguirre will get dragged for this, and deservedly so.

No doubt, and closer to 50. If you're El Tri, you can't lose with those advantages. But ... oh well.

Is Mexico the Texas A&M of international soccer?
Great home stadium and atmosphere, always seems like they're pretty good, should be pretty good, and yet they never seem to even get to the biggest stage let alone win there.

Of course I have heard this song and have only loosely associated it with Britain.

Kind of the same way I heard the British hymn “Land of Hope and Glory” when I walked across the college stage.

I'm not the most astute soccer fan ...

Biggest win for England since ...

1966?

(Don't shoot)

We won't know the answer to that for at least six days. If they reach the final, yes. For now, I'd say that beating the Netherlands in the 2024 Euro semis was bigger. I'd argue this was the most heroic England win in the last 50 years, though.

Ok. I’m trying to compose myself after that game. I’ve had the privilege of having my heart broken a few times my teams I love, and this isn’t close to the times the Niners lost in the Super Bowl or the 21 Giants. Those teams I love and am a real fan for.

But this one hit different.

My dad is Mexican, so it’s been fun to root for Tri. And more fun than rooting for the US (yeah, I said it). This time, my son is actually old enough to appreciate sports. And watching El Tri was the first time he actually sat and watched a sporting event with me. Like actually got invested and didn’t tell me to turn it off, which he does with every other sport. So this turned into one of those moments. Him and I sitting in his bed watching Mexico play as he fell asleep. He loved cheering for Green Team. And he’ll get over the fact they lost and move on. And I know England was just better and was going to win that game, but dammit of I don’t want one more bed time Tri game.

So go Belgium. **** FIFA. And I hope England has something left next week because damn they’re good.

Now back to your celebrating and don’t mind me if I knock one back if the US get hosed despite the abject corruption that happened today

It's FIFA. They have line items for Bribes in their annual budget. Both incoming and outgoing.

**** Belgium. It's not even a real country.

**** FIFA. It's more corrupt than the International Olympic Committee.

**** the United States government, which is not the same as the people of the United States of America.

If you can't root for your own actual country to win tomorrow night, then that's your problem.

Trump getting involved will absolutely kill any chance this team had. He has a tendency turn everything good into crap.
