Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

Bruce and Bishoff are ridiculous with the Meltzer stuff. It makes the shows borderline unlistenable at times, Eric moreso than Bruce.

And yeah he stepped in it here. He wasnt eloquent. But its not an entirely unfair topic is it? We’re all talking about Ambrose’s new look all week......functionally whats the difference?

I think there's a bit of a difference. He is commenting on her boobs job. If you have followed him for a while, it seems like he has a problem against boobs job. He should have kept his mouth shut, IMO. What he said was wrong, and his apology was pathetic.

Has anyone asked Seth how many stars for Saudi Arabia? This whole lets attack Meltzer when we’re in bed with these way more sexist people and we keep our mouths shut is very disengenious to me.

I get what you're saying, but the hope is that at some point, the E can be a catalyst into dragging Saudi Arabia out of the 16th century.

Im sure Vince believes that. The talent should know better.

Its psychological tho. I get it. The Greatest Royal Rumble kinda sorta “insulted” the entire womens division, just the abstract nameless faceless division.

Meltzer insulted a singular person, their friend. Thats a lot easier to jump on.

Ciampa is so damn good.

My prediction: Gargano does whatever is necessary to rip the title from Ciampa. Questionable means included.

It comes out Gargano was the one that attacked Aleister, setting a whole new fire to the flame.

I also think Meltzer did a poor job of parsing his phrasing. Like, he could have said something like, "She's been a bit thicker, which is obviously a big deal from WWE management's perspective."

Now I’m curious. What are you guys thoughts overall on Meltzer?
I think there's good and bad with Meltzer. It's clear that he gets fed information from wrestlers, who are likely trying to put themselves over, and there are times he isn't a good filter or doesn't get confirmation when he should, but it's also hard to know when he ran with a rumor and didn't do more reporting when he should have and when things just changed at the last minute, as happens a lot in wrestling. But he gets plenty of stories, right. And as Jericho pointed out on a recent podcast, his reporting helped reshape things for wrestlers in that they could see hard numbers on gates and such instead of just relying on whatever promotion they're in to give them the numbers, which of course would always favor the promotion writing the checks. I think overall he's a good guy, but he stepped in it this time. He owned up to his mistake quickly, though, so there's something to be said for that.

Pretty much what Royal said and what Conrad Thompson usually says. Meltzers good for the business and that goes for wrestling and combat sports too. The business side stuff he gets about gates and merch and tv ratings is second to none.

I dont always agree with his match ratings or what talent he seems to be excited about but thats fine. I didnt always like the same movies as Ebert or pick the same winners as my fave sports columnists either. That doesnt mean theyre not good writers.

The Madness and the Batness! OOH YEAH!

That was absolutely....

I think that was the best womens title match nxt has had since Asuska went up, and I think it was better than a lot of hers too. Bravo

What a clever finish to the main event too. Don't know how they'll top that next time.

With SummerSlam finally here, what is everyone's projections for match of the night contenders? I think it'll come down between The Miz and Daniel Bryan or AJ Styles and Samoa Joe.
