Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

Has he not seen what Bret Bielema's running backs do?

With his injury history, I think he's just looking to get paid before his body completely breaks down.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

SI's top eight...

1. Luke Joeckel, OT, A&M
2. Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
3. Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
4. Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
5. Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
6. DeMarcus Milliner, DB, Alabama
7. Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia
8. Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

I don't trust any place that would call him DeMarcus Milliner.

Here's Todd McShay/Scouts Inc.:

3. Damontre Moore, Texas A&M
4. Chance Warmack, Alabama
5. Manti Te'o, Notre Dame
6. Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M
7. Barkevious Mingo, LSU
8. Johnathan Hankins, Ohio State
9. Sylvester Williams, North Carolina
10. Bjoern Werner, Florida State
11. Jonathan Cooper, North Carolina
12. Dee Milliner, Alabama
13. Johnathan Jenkins, Georgia
14. Dion Jordan, Oregon
15. Taylor Lewan, Michigan

And Mel Kiper Jr.:

1. Jarvis Jones, Georgia
2. Manti Te'o, Notre Dame
3. Star Lotulelei, Utah
4. Damontre Moore, Texas A&M
5. Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M
6. Barkevious Mingo, LSU
7. Chance Warmack, Alabama
8. Bjoern Werner, Florida State
9. Alec Ogeltree, Georgia
10. Anthony Barr, UCLA
11. Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee
12. Sheldon Richardson, Missouri
13. Taylor Lewan, Michigan
14. Dee Milliner, Alabama

Alabama QB AJ McCarron says he's coming back:

Rumor has it RB Eddie Lacy and OT Danny Lee Jesus Fluker are gone, however.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

If he's going back to school to be a 5th-year senior, good on him.

If he isn't, I'm surprised not to see DE Datone Jones from UCLA on either one of those top-15 lists.

Fluker's stock has slipped as more and more people realize he's a right tackle for life. He doesn't have the quickness to play on the left side. He may even be best suited as a guard.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

Why wouldn't McCarron stay for his final year? What would he have been, a late-round pick? Might as well stick around and actually play football.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

I've heard him rated as a third- or fourth-rounder now. He's much better than Brodie Croyle or Greg McElroy. He should contend for the Heisman Trophy next season.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

Yeah. A.J. made the smart, if not blindingly obvious, call here.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

The hard part for A.J. was probably putting off his loudmouth parents, who've been plotting how to get him drafted early from the time he reached his dorm room.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

Is Jarvis Jones really the #1 prospect coming out? In the 'Bama game, the most disappointing thing was seeing the Bulldogs, including Jones, get blown out on the line of scrimmage in the 3rd and 4th qtrs when Bama started running. Unlike Von Miller, I do not think Jones holds up on the run.

Good point. I'll add two words: Christian Ponder. He's having an OK year, but in no way has he justified being a first-round pick.

Lot of high picks doing worse than Ponder. Tim Tebow. Ryan Mallett. Colt McCoy. Blaine Gabbert.

But the point is valid... too many teams reach for a quarterback too early and overpay for him. Only QB I would consider in the first round this year is Barkley, and not as a top five overall pick.

The thing about Honey Badger is drug issues aside, he's the kind of player who coaches love... As Pete said, he's a "natural playmaker" and just a beast on special teams. Somebody will take him.

Agreed.

After watching Adrian Peterson this year, I would take Lattimore late in the first round for sure. They're similar runners.

I'd have to see how Lattimore is progressing by April. That was a serious injury. Not totally writing him off but I wouldn't be expecting him to start as a rookie, either. And that is sort of the standard for first-round picks.

AP story I saw said he's not anticipating stepping on an NFL field before 2014.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

If that is true, no way am I drafting him... in any round. Running back is the single easiest position to fill. No way am I taking a chance on completely whiffing on a pick on a guy who won't play at all next year and may never play.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

No one is similar to Adrian Peterson. No human, anyway.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

He was probably expecting not to be drafted when he made the decision and just wants to be in an environment where he gets the best training and medical advice, he can focus on that full-time without worrying about some school BS, and he won't have a coach who sticks him back on the field because he really really wants to beat Clemson.

Re: 2013 NFL draft/early entry running thread: Marcus Lattimore going pro

Has he already used his redshirt year?
