2009 running CFL thread

Eskimos beat the Argos last night at the Rogers Centre, 22-19 in one of the dullest games of the season. ER played special teams (punt returns)

Thanks to my sister for getting the awesome seats (down low, right behind the Eskies bench) and thanks for Huggy, Mrs. Huggy and Huggy jr for coming along. My son D managed to spend the equivalent of the GNP of a small third world country on beer.

Was a fun night, thanks to JR and fam for inviting us along.

Was far from the best football game I've ever seen. Hadn't been to an Argo game in years (CFL debut for Huggy Jr. whose first live football game was the International Bowl between Buffalo and UConn in January) and man, they have got to get out of the dome and into a smaller, open air facility. It worked in Montreal, no reason it couldn't work here. No buzz, no atmosphere, it made a Jays game seem as crazy as a late-season game at Fenway between the Red Sox and Yankees.

It was too bad University of Toronto couldn't have included the Argos in their plans when they rebuilt Varsity Stadium.

The City of Toronto blew it big time when they built BMO field for soccer only as the design couldn't accommodate a CFL field. It would have been ideal for the Argos, U of T and high school football. There's lots of parking and it's accessible by streetcar and GO Transit. And that nice bracing wind off Lake Ontario would have made for great November football

Oh, and as Huggy said, "Where are all the fights in the stands? This ain't Argos football!"

Absolutely, I didn't see one mickey bottle or overpriced beer hurled all night! Ah, to return to the wild, old glory days at the Ex! One thing the dome has over that place - for football anyway: infinitely more sanitary bathrooms!

It is too bad that the BMO Field project didn't include the Argos. That would be a terrific venue for them. As it is now I don't see a whole lot of interest in another outdoor stadium in Toronto.

How low are the crowds at Skydome?

Last night there were (announced) around 27,000. Not bad for an Argos team that is beyond awful.

Any update on the Tillman situation? I heard a few different stories thru som back channels but am wondering if there has been anything new come out?

Tillman apparently already has some kind of offer to work in the u.s. But says he wants to stay in cfl. I could see him maybe ending back in Toronto.
