122 teams, is everybody covered?

A lot of people in Buffalo/WNY are Yankees fans. YES is in pretty much in every household there. Hell, my entire family are Yankee fans. But, no thanks.
I grew up watching them, even had a small interest when Tino Martinez was there, but that didn't last long. I just hate the, 'You're form NY and you don't like the Yankees or Knicks ?!' Goodness.

Growing up in Alabama with no pro teams, my ties to St. Pete led to Bucs and Rays, nearness to Nashville explains the Titans, and when I started watching baseball, the only team anywhere close was the Braves.

I don't get it when people pcik and choose teams from multiple regions.
I can understand a disparity in a college versus pro teams - you grew up one place but went to school someplace else.
But I don't understand the multiple region approach, eg.
I root for the Yankees, the Cowboys, the Lakers and the Red Wings and in college I like Alabama football and Kansas basketball.

That drive's me crazy.

I can explain why I'm a Cowboys fan and live in California. My uncle, who I really looked up to when I was a kid, was a Cowboys fan. It has just been that way ever since. There was actually a battle between family members when I was a baby over who I'd root for. Cowboys won over 49ers.

I enjoy college football and basketball more than the pros, but I don't have a designated school for which I root. That past decade has put me off my Notre Dame fandom.

That seems to be a common grouping of rooting interest across the sports (subbing the Rangers for the Devils in your case). Other fans in the city root for the Mets, Jets, Nets and Islanders. There seems to be little crossover between these groups of teams (i.e. a Yankees fan also rooting for the Jets). Probably geographical.

Not all of us stayed in one region growing up. I've lived in the Midwest (Pens, Bulls), West (Niners) and South (Braves). I take heat for my pro allegiances, but they make sense once you know the history. For example, I lived in California when I became a Braves fan. My grandparents lived in Atlanta. Every summer we'd go visit and my grandfather and I would hit Fulton-County for a game or two. And with the Braves on TBS, it was pretty easy to follow them the rest of the time.

I have an uncle who is a huge Skins fan, and even though I did not list them, I still want to see them do well.

I stopped being a Suns fan when I could not watch them on TV semi-consistantly (I go to bed before 11 p.m. most nights).

I don't count that as being a fan, though.
All thing being equal, I'll root for a Philly team or Seton Hall in the NCCA tournament, but I'm not really a Seton Hall fan or a Villanova fan.
When the Phillies played Tampa in the WS, I rooted for the Phillies, but I'm not a Philly fan.
Those are just circumstances, and teams that are from near where I grew up.

Exactly.

I grew up mostly in Alberta (which explains my Edmonton leanings) and my dad grew up in Chicago and raised me to cheer for Chicago teams. The Raptors are the only NBA team in Canada and of course dominates hoops coverage up here -- not a huge basketball fan, but if Ihad to choose a team it would probably be the Raptors -- and my family has a history at Texas A&M and I grew up cheering for them.
