One person was killed and nine others wounded Saturday night when someone opened fire at a neighborhood block party on a basketball court in Detroit, police said.

Asst. Police Chief Steve Dolunt said a 20-year-old man was killed. He was not being identified while relatives were informed.

Another man was critically injured and eight others, five men and three women, were listed as seriously injured. The victims ranged in age from 21 to 46, he said.
Dolunt said the shooting happened at a neighborhood party that included a barbecue attended by families with some small children in strollers.

"Through the grace of God no children were shot," he said.

Authorities suspect the dead man was targeted by the shooter, although Dolunt said that was preliminary.

No other information was immediately available.

Yeah, luckily just the 20-year-old was killed and a few older people wounded.
Not that children getting shot is better, but it just annoys the hell out of me when people imply that older folks getting wounded and killed is somehow a better deal. A life is a life. It's all a damn shame.

Refresh my memory ... On what government building in Detroit does the Confederate battle flag fly?

Regardless of the motivation, it's tragic when innocent people are killed. Such deaths are not meaningless.

What time is the President speaking about this shooting, and the one in Philadelphia?
