What things are you "holding on to" just because.

Not to be morbid, but since I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer earlier this year, I've been on a purge. Material things just don't matter anymore. Been giving away a lot of stuff to my friends and their kids, such as clothes and baseball cards. Plus, my Dad was a major hoarder and I...

In what ways are you still “old school?”

When I was looking to buy a new car in 2016, I wanted a CD player. I was checking out some different models and asked the salesman if there were any with CD players. He was like, "Oh, this one has one." Turns out, it's hidden behind the screen display. You have to push a small button that's easy...

    Laundry Confessions

I have never been a jersey guy. The only one I have is Mahomes and I won that from a Super Bowl bet. I wear it when I watch games, but even in the comfort of my own home or with family and friends, I feel silly wearing it. But dang it, I won a bet and want to get some use out of it. That said...

In what ways are you still “old school?”

I prefer physical media still to digital or streaming. For example, prefer holding actual books in my hands instead of using my Kindle. But I admit, books are such a pain to pack and move.

Am I crazy to want the Braves to explore Ron Washington as a replacement for Snit?

    It's In Our DNA

Not at. My parents were not into sports at all. The extent of my Dad's sportsballing was to nag me about how Jordan and the Bulls were so much better than my beloved Drexler and the Blazers (Sadly, he wasn't wrong), just to get under my skin. I got into sports and then into sports writing...

Concerts thread: Best/Worst/Next/Last one you attended?

Saw Sierra Hull two weeks ago. Mind-blowing! She's been playing for years since she was a child with other Bluegrass legends, such as Allison Krauss. But she's in a league of her own now, and her band was so good. She may never be huge mainstream-wise, but if you have a chance to see her, you...

What is your mental health escape? I think I've found mine

It's free-styling with Lego for me. Currently working on model of the 1987 Turtles Party Wagon.

    2025 MLB running thread

I mean Snit hasn't done himself any favors this season (bullpen management, throwing players and the grounds crew under the bus, etc.), but AA didn't exactly crush the offseason -- especially in regard to the bullpen. That said, if they replace Snit with Fredi, BARF.

As in Snit might be shown the door soon?

Remote Working, Good or Bad in the Long Run??

I've been working remote since the onset of the pandemic. I don't think I could ever go back to an office full-time. I love not having to commute even though mine was always short relatively, I like being able to get a jumpstart on things like starting a load of laundry or getting the crock pot...

    2025 NBA postseason thread

Just being rid of Kolde is a huge win. I am not worried about the team being moved, or really, any other owner, because the last decade has been brutal. Just be done with Kolde and the Vulcans. I don't love how old Knight is and that he fund my alma matter's rival, but if he's all in on the...

    I want a dog

Thanks @UNCGrad for posting that picture. I am in tears because of how happy it made me, for Finley, for you, and your family.

"Getting out of the business" resource thread

My advice to you is just enjoy being out of the journalism biz for a while. You'll miss it, you'll feel weird without it. But just enjoy being less stressed and being able to be present for of the things that truly matter... your family, your friends, your hobbies, your mental well-being. Look...

Snitker mismanaging the bullpen. Some things never change. How the Braves won it in 2021, I'll never know.

MLB to Small Town America: Drop Dead

As someone who grew up in the Salem-Keizer area, I can confirm that Jerry Walker is a grade-A asshole. Super cheap too. It's a wonder the Volcanoes lasted as long as they did there. Also, the stadium is kinda dumpy now.

Things that suck...and one thing that helps when things suck

Things that suck: Being diagnosed with a rare form of incurable cancer at 42 years of age, while the current admin takes aim at cancer research. Things that don't suck: GF and I put together a quick trip last week to Italy since I have never been to Europe. It was a magical escape from...

    Mental health thread

Adding onto the dreams bit. I am really bad at math. I failed Math 111 like three times in college before I finally passed it. But I still have dreams occasionally about the Registrar's office calling me up and telling me that they are rescinding my degree due to having found I didn't pass Math...

Holy cow, I need to lay off the SpoJo

I know I rarely ever post in here. But I visit every day even though I am 11 years removed from the business. I always tell people I miss the art of journalism and the friendships I made in the newsrooms, but the business side of journalism I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Though this board...
