I think there’s a line between “staying informed” and “consuming ragebait.” There comes a point where the only result is the validation of the feeling that there’s just nothing I as an individual can do to fix what is very obviously wrong, which truly is corrosive to my mental health. So I have to disengage. I’m seeing it with my GF too. I’m thisclose to putting a parental blocker on Threads, because she lets it ruin her day.

And I’m directly affected by pretty much all of it. I have a trans child and one who has a severe pre-existing medical condition. I ****ing hate the lack of accountability and the celebration of assholery and the frightening incompetence of everybody in this sick parody of an Administration.

We do need to stay informed. To what actual end, I’m no longer sure, but it’s our obligation to a democracy. But there is a point where you have to modulate the signal to avoid being driven crazy by the noise.

It is incredibly difficult to find reliable sources of news without getting overwhelmed by the sheer madness of what it is to be an American citizen right now.
