We're a couple of states away, but the barge was owned by a company headquartered in our town. Our news editor was putting the paper to bed around 6 p.m. on Memorial Day, reading over the AP story, and saw that little nugget, to which she infamously exclaimed, "****! THE BARGE IS FROM PODUNK!"
Amazingly, I think she turned around a localized story -- or at least got enough details to localize the AP story -- within the hour.

Since this is turning into the weather thread, there's a slow motion disaster happening in the Mississippi Delta. A good chunk of the western quadrant of the state, most of the land between I-20 and U.S. 82, is underwater. It's been that way since about March and is expected to stay that way for most of the summer.

This flood is a freak occurrence, the likes of which haven’t been seen here since 1973. Eagle Lake sits at the bottom of a funnel-like geography where two separate floods have now met.
To the north and east, the Yazoo backwater flood, which continues to rise, is caused by overflow from a series of small rivers and other waterways that flow through the Delta into the Mississippi River. Because of a heavy rain season and snowmelt from the Midwest traveling down the big river, the smaller rivers have no place to drain their water.
That backup of the smaller rivers has flooded hundreds of thousands of acres in the south Delta.
To the west and south of the community, the Mississippi River continues to rise as more water flows south. The moment that Parker and the residents lost their fight was when Eagle Lake, which rises with the river, reached the same height as the backwater flood to the east.
Together, the two floods swallowed the Eagle Lake community

Corps is predicting a Sunday river crest of 41 feet for Sunday. The record is 38.1.

Aerial footage of the Arkansas river through Tulsa. In metro Tulsa, the river bank area was flooded but it did not reach the highway. The River Spirit Casino's swim up bar was close to being breached (2:10). :eek:

Little known fact. You can buy personal/family tornado shelters. These are essentially massive metal walk-in safes. I have never seen one myself, but apparently they have air ventilation and water drainage systems
