Seems on topic given the thread jack - I'm surprised about Arby's buying Buffalo WildWings. Surprised Arby's is doing that well and BWs is struggling. Though I always leave BWs surprised how much I spent for what I got. Ten wings, a beer and a diet Coke shouldn't cost $20.

BW is too expensive and is set up weird, at least the ones I've been to. There's a counter where you can order to-go or take your food to a table, or you can go straight to a table for full service. If you do the former while eating in, you look like a cheap *******, while the latter gets you completely atrocious service that makes you wish you'd done the former.

I've been served medium rare wings at BWW on three occasions. Hard pass. If I have a choice of chain wings, it's Wild Wing Cafe.

There are too many wing joints with similar names. Buffalo Wild Wings. Wings and Rings, Wingstop, knock off names... It's becoming a Ray's, Original Ray's, Famous Original Ray's situation.

Thought the same when talking with a buddy yesterday. He couldn't remember the last time he went to Arby's. I only go when visiting relatives because it's that and McD's in their town. Been to Buffalo Wild Wings a few times and it's always been packed.

Went to Arby's last night for dinner. Hadn't been in a couple months, and they have remodeled the place. Threw me off. Food was as good as always, though, even if the drink machine was in the wrong spot.

Last year I went to Arby's in NYC (8th Av, I think) for a quick snack. First time I had Arby's in maybe 20 years. It didn't suck but it wasn't really even pedestrian either. Just sort of blah.

Their Jamocha shakes are great. Back in high school, we used to get them at lunch and mix with brandy or rum. End of junior year, driver's ed was the only class after lunch. Teacher was a cop and said he didn't care if we had our lunch in class as long as we cleaned up and nobody told the principal that he would smoke cigs in class.

I once annihilated a one-person bathroom at a Jack in the Box in Rancho Cucamonga, to the point where the manager yelled at me as I was leaving. I did not turn around and go back through the drive through.

Few things are more annoying to me than chain faux 'sports' bars.
The very concept behind BWW is anathema to me.
Plus, I love wings and their wings are not good.

Slight threadjack: Anyone else not impressed by the "choose from 70 flavors" Coke machines? (the Wendy's in our area has one).

If you go with "Coca-Cola Original Taste," it's fine, but if you try Cherry Coke or one of the other exotic flavors, it tastes weird.

Having work fast food a long time ago, I wonder how the cartons of syrup hook up to the new machine. Probably way too complicated for the teenage help!

Half the fun of going to a place that has one of those machines is watching people try to figure out how to use it. Then, watching the newbie employee try to change the carton of syrup.

I would meet up with an old college friend about once a month at the BWWs in town. One day, while chewing into a flat that was the way I'd rather have my steak (medium rare), I remarked that as much as I love wings, I'm not a fan of BDubs. He said he was thinking the same, and the next time we went to a local joint. Been going there ever since.

Since you didn't ask ... I have attempted to quantify the "good ****," over the last few years, and someday my scale will catch on with the rest of the world.

In a nutshell:

Every good **** has four major pillars:
1. The correct amount of effort - you don't want to have to push too much, and you don't want it falling out of your butt. Just a little push to get things moving.
2. Consistency - Everyone should want to see a rope-like coil when they're finished.
3. Completeness - No one wants that, "OK - but there's more to come in an hour." You want to feel like you got it all.
4. A good clean wipe - with some minimum amount of toilet paper, you want to easily achieve that clean feeling.

So the perfect ****? Four pillars. The worst diarrhea you've ever had? Zero pillars. Everything else lies somewhere in between.

And yes - there are also Zoning Requirements, which can mitigate a low pillar score. A two pillar while playing a home game is probably net effective just as good as a three pillar at Starman's gas station.

Nicely done.

I saw a comedian recently who talked about an epic **** he took -- "the kind where you want to weigh yourself before and after."
