    Agreed wholeheartedly.
I'd go so far as to say it was a bad movie, but I love the soundtrack.

Batman '89 for the Danny Elfman score, not as much the Prince soundtrack. Just very moody and appropriate.

The OP was dead on with "Bridge on the River Kwai."

Not so much the theme music, but the use of music in Casablanca was terrific.

The Sting -- both the theme music and the use of music throughout.

    Father Goose

Any Beatles movie, but in particular Yellow Submarine.

Also would like to throw in "Hoosiers." Still disappointed I can't find a soundtrack for that.

The Commitments is a top 3 soundtrack Behind Almost Famous and Amercan Graffiti. But not an iconic piece of theme music.

So are we talking movies that produced great albums or singles from the soundtrack, or are we talking scores that are instantly recognizable and associated with certain films?

I took it as the latter because of the use of the word "theme." Can a soundtrack be a theme?

We recently covered the former here, to a degree: Song-Movie Marriage

If we expand to soundtracks, though, I'll add "Good Morning Vietnam."

That's how I took it too.

    I meant the latter.

Star Wars theme is instantly recognizable, but the theme to the Great Escape is better.
