Putting a damper on the Elis' first NCAA tournament bid since 1962, senior captain Jack Montague was expelled from school last month.

This one certainly has everything we've been talking about for years around here. The finding and expulsion, based on a preponderance of evidence, came from the university's review panel. Montague faces no criminal charges, and there is no active investigation.

He says he and a woman had consensual sex. He also says the woman returned to his room to spend the night with him. This happened in October 2014. In November 2015, the woman told a Title IX coordinator the sex was nonconsensual.

Ex-Yale captain disputes sexual assault claims

A few weeks ago, the basketball team wore warm-ups with Montague's nickname, Gucci, and with "Yale" in backward letters. This led to others on campus posting signs saying "Stop Supporting a Rapist."

It is Sabrina Erdely's favorite March Madness storyline for sure.

The coach and players standing by the captain has really pissed people off.

Not enough information to have any opinion.

The University hired an independent investigator to investigate this matter and, as reported by her, the facts not in dispute and as stated in the female student’s account are these:

The two students developed a relationship that led to them sleeping together in Jack’s room on four occasions in the fall of 2014.

On the first occasion, the woman joined Jack in bed and stayed the night.

On the second occasion, she entered his bed voluntarily, removed all of her clothes and, during the night, woke him to perform oral sex.

On the third occasion, she joined him in bed, voluntarily took off all her clothing, and they had sexual intercourse by consent.

On the fourth occasion, she joined him in bed, voluntarily removed all of her clothes, and they had sexual intercourse. Then they got up, left the room and went separate ways. Later that same night, she reached out to him to meet up, then returned to his room voluntarily, and spent the rest of the night in his bed with him.

The sole dispute is as to the sexual intercourse in the fourth episode. She stated that she did not consent to it. He said that she did.

A year later she reported the incident to a Title IX coordinator. A Title IX official – not her – filed a formal complaint with the University-Wide Committee.

Wow.

I was basing my opinion on the Times article I read a few days ago. Didn't realize there was new info.

Did he consent to what happened on occasion two?

Why do colleges investigate alleged sexual assault instead local PDs?

Because they're required to under federal law. Oh, and there's the added benefit that if they apply just a wee bit of pressure on the accuser, she usually won't report it to the PD so there's no paper trail for a required Clery Act disclosure. It's a win-win

Is this why the NCAA matched Yale with Baylor?

The committee has a sardonic sense of humor.
