I'm kind of surprised by it - but I guess the closures and mergers on Wall Street were less severe than declines of business travel. The video-conferencing systems available now have killed business travel.
Kind of tough for Gannett. They have "The Nation's No. 1 Paper" right beneath their masthead. Figure they'll change it to "most-read" or some other less concrete boast.
 
Audit rules allow newspapers to count some online-only subscriptions. The Journal, a unit of News Corp.-owned Dow Jones & Co., is among the few major newspapers that charge for access to much of its Web site. USA Today does not.

That they cover a niche that not many others cover helps them as well.
