Would this column make many papers?

Seems fine to me. A little fiery, and I don't necessarily agree with him on everything, but he does make some valid points.
What's wrong with it?

I couldn't read past the first four stupid paragraphs so
I am unable to offer an opinion.

He did such a great job in sports, why not make him a newsie. [/bluefont]

The first line alone is enough to keep me from taking seriously anything that follows. And since I couldn't take it seriously, I also didn't get past the fourth graph.

Count my among those who agree about the four opening paragraphs, especially the first one. Not an appropriate context for flatulence jokes, even if he was using one to make a point.

A few more years, Mr. King has in that job. At some point, some editor will, not with any particular rancor, just say "OK, Shaun, thanks. Good luck. Take care."

His work wreaks of a person who basically can't be edited by anyone because they're apparently afraid to trample on his ****ty mind.

The guy deserves better from his bosses. Way better. He deserves a "OK, let's cut the **** and think a little" conversation. Maybe a loud one - I've known writers who needed that conversation to be loud. But, obviously nobody cares enough about the guy to tell him this column is so one-note and lame on arrival that, should he keep it going, he'll drum himself right out of the serious part of the business. The NYDN will get its 2-3 years of traffic out of him, and then...have a nice day.

King's Pollyannish take is an embarrassment, smacking of an apparent inability to understand the differing standards in criminal vs. civil trials. I mean, of course he must understand the cities are settling to save themselves - and the families - from battling for years and years in court. Settling is often the humane, decent thing to do in these cases. It gets the family out from under all the lawyers, for one thing.

But he doesn't mention it and the people are the NYDN...don't make him?

What the hell's going on over there?

King really is nailing down the, "This thing has been happening for decades but I just found out about it, so it's new and I'm FURIOUS" beat, isn't he?
