On the Dan Patrick Show yesterday... Apparently Forde wrote than Ferrell was not a USC graduate, when in fact he is...

Ferrell said, "Is he in this building? Because I'll fight him right now..."

I've never laughed so hard while listening to a sports talk show... It was great stuff...

Perhaps Mizzougrad will slash my tires, but I don't think a lot of Will Ferrell's movies are all that funny. But when he's being interviewed for a radio show or on a TV show, I think the guy is hilarious. If you saw his interview with Jon Stewart shortly after the Mel Gibson "verbal altercation" you would have died laughing.

I agree completely. Will Ferrell is the best talk show guest out there by far...

His movies (I have not seen Stranger than Fiction yet...) with the exception of Old School have all been mediocre to bad... Talladega Nights was pretty good. Elf was awful. Kicking and Screaming was mediocre. Anchorman was way overrated.

I remember a movie critic wrote that Will Ferrell makes the best previews in the business, but can't make it last for a full film... I completely agree...

Ferrell challenges Forde, he goes through me.

Maybe I should clarify... He was so joking... I just loved that one of the biggest comedy stars in the world reads Pat Forde...

Mizzou, I respect your movie knowledge, but if you think Kicking and Screaming was mediocre, you're insane. That movie was god-awful.

And Anchorman overrated? Equally insane.

That's how I roll.

Oh, I know. But I know Forde comes on here occasionally, and I want him to know I've got his back. :D

Pat Ford of Louisville Magazine has it made when Will Ferrell calls him out.

I'm so jealous. The best I've ever had is Lou Holtz calling me a "whipper-snapper." Dammit. I'm so far behind ...

It's an honor to be called out by an overgrown elf. I think.

For the record, here's the genesis of our "dispute". This was the lede on a story I wrote last August on USC:

LOS ANGELES -- Just when you thought the klieg lights had dimmed and USC had transitioned back to normal football powerhouse status, here came Ricky Bobby.

Actor/USC fan Will Ferrell showed up at a Trojans team meeting last week wearing a NASCAR jump suit, upstaging coach Pete Carroll in his own NASCAR getup. Moments before, Carroll burst into the meeting to announce a training camp surprise: He was taking the team to see Ferrell's new movie, "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," at a campus theater. Then here came Ferrell, in character, stunning the unwitting Carroll and sparking a boisterous group jump-around session befitting the winning pit crew at Daytona. The only thing missing was a celebratory burnout and some sprayed champagne.

Naturally, about 200 USC fans wrote in to say that Ferrell is an alum, not just a fan. I told them I went with fan because I wasn't 100 percent sure he graduated from USC, so I didn't want to erroneously call him an alum. (Moral of the story: shoulda checked with USC folks. Didn't.) Anyway, that somehow morphed into me saying he didn't go to school there. Hope the dude isn't getting his info from message boards or something.

An aside: if you haven't seen the GQ cover story on Ferrell from a few months back, find it. Funniest magazine story of all time ever. Writer produced a boilerplate celeb feature template and let Ferrell himself fill most of the adjectives, nouns and key phrases. Perfect vehicle for his wit. I give huge props to the writer or whoever came up with the idea, and to Ferrell for playing along brilliantly.

That said, I'll still fight his ass. Bring it on.

Be careful what you wish for -- Brick Tamland might kill you with a trident.

I'd like to go ahead and nominate this already for Thread of the Year, 2007. Unless it counts for 2006.

anyone who calls "anchorman" overrated has only seen it once. upon first viewing, i didn't get the hype, either. but it's one of those comedies that gets better with each viewing. trust me on this. i was once a naysayer, too.

I hope Forde and Ferrell don't throw down.

Forde might damage Ferrell's leading man good looks.
