UPDATE: Franken resigns from Senate

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything I just posted. I get it. You don't like Chris. He makes you mad, and is mean. This has nothing to do with anything I wrote, as far as I can tell.

More importantly, it's not that I don't know what YF's motives are. It's that I don't care what YF's motives are. I really don't. I have been on record for years that I don't care what anyone's motives are really. Legislation, arguments - whatever it may be - they get evaluated on their merits.

It's relevant because he's the most prominent of the "actual working journalists" that you're talking about. Holy ****, the guy who profiled Penelope Cruz in her unmentionables' opinion must be more meritorious!

There is no one on this board whose opinion merits less deference.

Regarding anonymity ... every newspaper I have worked for, big and small, followed the same practice of not identifying victims of sexual harassment or domestic violence without their consent, except for perhaps rare cases, of which I can think of mine.

We had a local EMT performing “bodily cavity searches” on accident victims while en route to the hospital. Theee of them. When they sued, we did not identify them.

So, am I wrong in surmising that the only thing standing between a bro-hug (the non-cuddling, non-kissing variety) between @**** Whitman and @Double Down is their choice of allies? Maybe y'all could work a Yankee Swap/Chinese Auction for Christmas or something? @Double Down making common cause with @YankeeFan and @**** Whitman partnering with @typefitter might be a sign of hope for this troubled old world.

@Double Down is probably my favorite poster here, as far as whose posts inform, entertain, and make me think.

I felt like the little shot he took was beneath him and for the benefit of someone who doesn't deserve it. But I also understand why he felt he needed to step in. Referees stop fights all the time.

You're assigning me things I've never actually argued, because you are very mad. Never suggested anyone show deference to anyone.

Now, if we're talking about a celebrity profile, I think Chris would be a great resource to listen to as he's actually gotten those assignments and handled them well. Some great, others he did his best with difficult subjects. They aren't easy assignments and attempting to mock him for a Cruz profile seems strange and random when those assignments are a ****show in the first place and not something any journalist would pitch. Your argument there seems to be "You did bad on this!" and I don't even follow the thread as to why that would be relevant, even if true.

That's the difference between Dems and Repubs.

Dems resign because they feel shame.

Repubs don't and drive onward with full backing, even after child molesting. Don't tell me none of them knew about Denny Hastert.

Conyers was forced out in the prime of his career.

I didn't know Penelope Cruz's unmentionables had an opinion on anything.

Now wondering who would serve the role of dealmaker and stand in the middle while they make one of those awkward four-way handshakes at an air force base in Dayton, Ohio.

The "YOU are an angry person and that's why we don't get along" thing is well past its 15 minutes. Lazy take.

He may have done a tremendous job. But my point is that profiling Penelope Cruz and Carrot Top and Alec Baldwin doesn't convert your posts about the practice of journalism to The Word of The King.

The Dems' slow movement on Conyers & especially Franken was an unforced error that makes it hard for them to claim the high ground. Clinton was years ago. They got another try and tried to get it wrong before being forced to do the right thing. Obviously, Trump and Moore are far worse but it makes it easier for the other side to combat.

If Conyers' kid gets the seat, the whole thing is worthless.

Poor Chris.

I mean ... mock him all you like. I really don't care. I don't know that he cares. I think in general your loathing of one another clouds otherwise good threads but that's fine. That's how this place has always gone.

It seems you were very mad that I thought it was ridiculous you told us that YF really cares about objective journalism standards, when in fact the opposite seems true. I enjoy YF for entertainment reasons, as I've said many times. You defend him far more than I have ever defended anyone here, Chris included, then accuse me of the same weird behavoir in reverse so I'm not sure what I'm suppose to make of it.

I don't think I've ever taken a shot at your journalism career, in public or private, as I understand careers are a grand mix of good fortune, talent and timing, and unforeseen breaks.

I made that crack mostly about my favorite Randian espresso repairman, not you, other than you insisting you viewed the world through the same journalistic high standards. That was you doing exactly what you've accused other of doing, putting friendship above standards.

Let's not muddy this thread further. I apologize if you felt I was belittling your journalism career. I was not intending to do so.

You keep saying this, but it doesn't sound like something I would post or even care about. Motive doesn't matter to me. It's a distraction.

It's not that I'm defending him. He just happens to the frequent target of the kind of bullying behavior I abhor and that should be called out. That it's YF is incidental.
