The Associated Press seeks a Regional Assistant Sports Editor to supervise sports coverage for its Chicago, Illinois office.
The editor will supervise approximately 15 writers. This editor reports to the deputy sports editor. This editor assigns, directs, edits and coordinates stories with writers within the region on a daily basis for stories and coverage related to all sports. Other responsibilities include working with Multimedia, Photos, Graphics and Broadcast on a daily basis.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated news and editing skills, the ability to handle fast-breaking stories as well as features and enterprise experience. Applicants should have knowledge of and an interest in a full range of sports, nationally and internationally. Applicants should be able to work with writers, identify and assign stories, and develop projects with bureaus. Candidates must be organized, energetic, highly motivated and able to communicate ideas clearly.
Applicants must be able to work well with reporters to produce a top-notch report across all platforms. Candidates must be capable of supervising and directing special events on site or from the office.
Must be familiar with and able to work with multimedia elements, and must have ability and desire to work with Graphics, Broadcast, Photos and Online Video to ensure proper packaging of stories. Applicants should have three to five years of full-time daily sports and management experience.
