The U.S. Secret Service is investigating a case in which a man used a counterfeit $100 bill to try bond out another man from the Hoover Jail Tuesday night, Hoover police Capt. Jim Coker said today.


Jailers recognized the bill as counterfeit and arrested the man, said Coker, who declined to release the man's name because he said it could affect the investigation.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the man who was in jail for a misdemeanor charge was also in on the counterfeit scheme, Coker said. The jailed man later bonded out legally, he said.
