Ouch. That's too bad. Some good folks there. The paper has made some pretty big strides in the past decade.

The really bad thing about this is that The Oklahoman seemed to be ahead of the pack in terms of ideas for making money on the Web. They had people paying for premium info on the Bedlam Nation site and had enough advertising money coming in on it to hire a staffer. Last I heard they landed a big advertising deal with a car dealership to launch a new version of the site.

Guess none of that really made a difference.

When will the bleeding stop? All of these cuts at papers across the country makes me feel extremely uneasy.

The worst part of this is that The Oklahoman is one of the few true "state papers" anymore. And they're not part of a chain. If they're making cuts, well, there is really no reason to have even the remotest hope for the business.

There's not a poor man sitting at the top of these ******* companies. You want to look at fat? Start cutting at the high admin level.

It's like saying that these two political parties truly give a **** about working men and women when they've blown unbelievable amounts of cash to get elected to a 300K job.

I was in the press box in Norman on Saturday and for about an hour a couple of guys sitting next to me talked about nothing but the layoffs and cutbacks at their papers. I don't know where they worked, I think one was from the DMN, but it made me very happy that my paper (knock on wood) has not only avoided all this so far, but is actually doing quite well.

I don't think whether you're doing well or not anymore has anything to do with it. I just think that they cut just because everybody else is cutting.

Even if they're making a profit, they're just making more of one now.

I'm positive John didn't mean it that way. And John is, in fact, a quality human being.
