What sort of punishments were handed out for college men who did likewise?

Honestly - I can't remember the last time a male player hauled off an sucker punched someone in the face and broke a nose and all that.

The only thing I can think of is LeGarrette Blount for Oregon, punching the player from Boise at the beginning of the college football season last year. He received 10 games suspension for the incident. Granted, beyond throwing the punch, he generally went crazy making things worse for himself.

Ten games was about right for both incidents......

10 games in a 12 game season > 10 games in a 40 game season

As it is I agree with Starman. Britteny saved her future career by letting the next girl know what could be the end result of repeated dirty tactics in the paint. Most of 'em will think twice because she'll get smarter and like you said zag she'll "accidentally" use the point of her elbow to fracture a jaw.

That is all fine and I can't say I disgree, but that is a moot point - she still should have been suspended for more than two games.

My timeline for nation of pansies started when "The Three Stooges" were deemed bad for kids. Agree about the hit back but on basketball court it needs to be a tad more subtle than on the football field.

Awesome game by her. She completely took control over the last 8 minutes. Many times, Summitt looked so lost, and I can't recall ever seeing that.

I think what helps Griner significantly, in light of the punch, is that her team is making a great tourney run, toppling No. 1 Tennessee in the process. She's giving people more to talk about now, and the punch is completely becoming an afterthought. If her season had ended shortly after the incident, she'd be hearing about it from now until the start of next season.
