The Dallas Morning News sports department is seeking help to produce statistics and stories for high school football games. This position will last from the beginning of August thru mid November and will typically work one to two days a week. Candidates must be able to attend games locally.



Candidates should have the following:

— Understanding of high school football rules and statistics.
— Fast, accurate computer skills.
— Drive to get it right, get it quickly.
— Ability to write effectively on deadline.
— Ability to commute around the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Bottom line: If you're in the Dallas-Fort Worth area I encourage you to apply. We can use as much help as we can get during football season. There'll be training sessions before the season starts to help people learn our stats system, etc.

Probably why they are looking for someone already in the Metroplex. It's a good way for someone still in college or just out to get some clips, and we all know how seriously high school football is taken in Texas.

Thank you. This is a stringer position -- cover one game a week for 15 weeks or so.

From what kwhitfield posted, I'd say they will take several from the pool of applicants and offer stringer work.
That's a no-brainer, and a good way to build the pool of contributors.

It is stringer work. You'd cover 1-2 games for us per week from end of Aug. to start of Dec. at the latest. We posted the listing on JJ because -- like someone said -- it couldn't hurt.

I'd say it's in the right place. It's a stringer gig, but not every major paper advertises it like this.

Good luck, Kyle. I don't live in DFW, obviously, but I read the DMN and the ST faithfully when I'm there. I wish you still had the GameTime section in the actual paper like you did a few years ago. :)
