Do you love high school and small college sports and believe there’s much more than covering games? Then you’re the person we’re looking for! Our Missouri newspaper, a five-day daily, is blessed with successful high school programs that normally go far in state tournaments. We want our next sports editor to share stories about the athletes and coaches in both print and digital format, and not just rely on game coverage to fill the pages. Our ideal candidate will enjoy writing feature stories and columns as much or more than attending the games themselves. Don’t get us wrong. Game coverage is important, but it’s not the only thing. Our sports editor must know how to paginate with InDesign, use Photoshop, take photographs, cover and write deadline game stories on site, uncover hidden talent in our area to use as stringers, and have outstanding communication skills with co-workers. We are a morning newspaper, so the ability to work accurately and quickly within a short window on deadline is of the utmost importance. We are a two-person sports staff, including the sports editor.
