Here's what I know: Yes, it is CNHI and since the Gannett Days of, I think, 2005, the current mother company has simply not hired any replacements for those that left over that period and this may be the first hire outside of a management position they've made since CNHI bought it. A Scout.com guy told me they do a pretty damn good job of covering the area, which is like five counties...he said as good a job as any paper its size that he's seen. The SE busts his ass and expects you to, but you know, being CNHI, that probably means an early grave if you stay there long.

and i will second that i've heard decent things about the SE.

Kays is a good guy. We're not with the same chain (thank God!!!) but we've helped each other when our teams cross paths. I think Kenton Brooks might also still be there, but not for certain. Texas scribes who've been at it awhile might remember Kenton from his days in Beaumont.

Kenton is still there. It's true they haven't filled an open position in awhile, but Kays will go to battle for you. The paper does a great job of covering the area and all the staff busts their ass.

Bacone is a four-year NAIA school in town.

But I guarantee you the college beat is not what the readers read.

The emphasis is on high school sports here. But they do staff home NSU games, Bacone University, and Connors State (In Warner). They also, at one point, staffed OU and OSU games.
