Soriano - first 50-50 season?

I haven't heard anyone mention this, but Alfonso Soriano has a shot at being the first 50-50 player in baseball history. He's on pace for 51 homers and 41 steals. All he needs to do is maintain his current HR pace and steal bases a little more often. I think he'll do it.

Don't know it's ever been close to 50-50, but Sori certainly will come the closest.

Just think, if Buck Showalter had the stones to tell Sori he WILL play outfield, like Frank told him ... the Rangers are 12 games over .500 and solidly in first, Brad Wilkerson remains a Fake Expo, and Sori is the leading MVP candidate in the AL. (He probably is Top 3 in the NL right now.)

That Soriano-Wikerson trade is looking more and more like Brock for Broglio every day.

I cam see it, because the closer we get to the end of the season, he's going to become more desperate to add stolen bases. And let's face it, it would only jack up his asking price this offseason. Because of that fact alone, I won't doubt him. I just think he's going to fall a tad short.

He hit more HR than that. More like 37, as I recall.
And I believe it was '87.

Actually, it's been a long while since I thought of Eric Davis. So I took a moment to do the research.

He hit 37 in '87 but only stole 50 that year. In '86, he hit only 27 but stole 80. Perhaps most impressive is that his '86 numbers were for 415 ABs. He only had 115 hits and 68 walks. With a little more playing time and a bit more patience, he may have hit the century mark. He only had 474 ABs in '87. So a full 600 might have put him in 50-50 territory.

Except I'd still be stunned if he were to play in Washington next season, so unless they turn one of the two compensatory draft picks into Lou Brock, I think the comparison falls short.
