Shooting @ congressional baseball practice

CNBC just reported this, but I can't find any stories yet. ...

There was a shooting at a Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. Congressman Steve Scalise (House majority whip) was among those who were shot. I think they said a suspect is in custody. I don't have any more details.

I'm listening to Rep. Brooks on CNN. He is reporting five shot - Scalise, staff guy, two security and shooter. Doesn't think any life threatening but he doesn't know. Shooter appeared to be middle-aged white guy. Shooter in custody.

Baseball practice at 730 am? That's an ungodly hour to be playing anything, but it's D.C. and a humid hell in the summer, so I guess early is better than later.

It's not far from my house, either. There's always plenty of hustle and bustle that early around here.

Plus, sitting congressmen have kind of important day jobs and long hours, so I'd be shocked if they didn't play at the butt-crack of dawn.

I live two miles down the road. I heard a lot of sirens this morning and since I'm close to both the airport and the Pentagon, that always makes me nervous. All weekend long, there are Little League and soccer games at that field. Awful.

No. There are homes and apartments nearby, but no. This is a field that hosts Little League and soccer games all weekend long. I'm sure screaming kids and parents make more noise.

I guarantee that wasn't the trigger, but yes, there are houses and apartment towers all over the place there.

People aren't living there for the tranquility. Anyone who lives close enough to hear noise from the park also lives right next to Route 1, which is even noisier.

I never have understood the Congressional Baseball teams putting info about their practices at an open facility out for public consumption. They don't really publicize it, but it's not difficult to find out when and where they practice.

I never have understood the Congressional Baseball teams putting info about their practices at an open facility out for public consumption. They don't really publicize it, but it's not difficult to find out when and where they practice.

I don't think they stand out as much here as they do elsewhere. Most places around here, you can't swing a baseball bat without hitting someone who works on Capitol Hill.
