Dumb sob.

Three weeks ago, the guy plateau-ed.

He'll never win more than eight games with that school.

He will get more loot, Ben..as well as the promise to expand the stadium to 60,000 (the Governor wnats to find State money to do that!) and a few additional perks.

And sorry, Columbo, but Miami is a ****ty place to be right now. He's far better off being the king of the little program that could in Piscataway.

No....

Miami was a ****ty place to be when Butch Davis took over. Then he recruited 19 NFL first-rounders over four years.

UM's lucky that someone with as many rocks in his head as Schiano apparently has didn't take the position.

He's smart... Notice the trend here... Guys would rather be Gods at a school than under constant scrutiny somewhere else... Good for him...

Glad to see that he is staying. And I'm happy to be wrong here.

The fact that Schiano didn't just blow out of town as soon as things got good gives that program some credibility. That will no doubt help keep the flow of recruits (esp. New Jersey recruits) coming to the school.

Or, as bubba suggested, does he know Paterno will be hanging 'em up next season, opening up a very prestigious job in its own right?

As for this month, can Schiano get that team back up emotionally to play in a crappy bowl that they really didn't want to play in. Bill Snyder couldn't do that at Kansas State in '98 when they blew a shot at the national title in the Big 12 championship in 1998 and fell all the way to the Alamo Bowl. Tedford couldn't do it at Cal two years ago when they were snubbed out of a Rose Bowl berth, fell to the Holiday Bowl (the Pac 10's next highest bowl), and lost to an ordinary Texas Tech team.

Schiano would prefer the Penn State job to Miami but does he really want to be the guy to succeed the legend?

This is a bear market in terms of college coaches. Miami and Alabama are not all that great. Traditional powers, yes. But you need a ty Pennington type to do an extreme makeover on those two schools.

Personally, UNC is the more compelling job. State school. Winnable conference. Expectations aren't ridiculous off the bat. Good place for an ambitious young coordinator ready to make his mark on the game.

It's always difficult to replace a legend, but when you're the king of New Jersey and can bring the top players with you, then it's an easier transition.

Schiano's got a good recruiting class coming and is in line for the top o-lineman out of Jersey, so the cupboard is hardly bare. He'll continue to do well.

If I was Rodriguez, I'd do the same thing. Stay, have another good/great season and then see if there are some better options available next year.

One thing you can always count on is coaches getting fired, so there shouldn't be any need to rush out the door.

"Greg, we'd like you to be the next coach here in Happy Valley. You have a couple years, work on building up Rutgers, find a person on staff to be your successor, and we'll leave the seat warm for you."

Wouldn't be surprised if this conversation took place.

Who wouldn't want to go to a suddenly-mediocre Miami program that's essentially run by its law-challenged former football players in a setup that's not unlike the Crips and Bloods of South Central L.A.?

****, where do I sign up?
