Saw Iron Man last night

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I do know that Robert Downey Jr./Tony Stark/Iron Man makes an appearance in the new Hulk movie coming out later this summer.

That is one of the benefits of Marvel Studios financing their own movies, that characters from the "universe" can move in between movies as necessary. They couldn't do it with the Spider-Man films at all.

saw it in matinee form today and the movie is quite good.
i'd guesstimate that about 30 people in the theater knew to wait until after the credits were over.
You should have heard the cheer that came out when the baddest man alive made his first appearance as you know who

I am greatly disappointed the marketers aren't playing up the Iron Man song more. If anything screams "bad-ass," it's that song, ESPECIALLY the intro.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but how do you not show love to Ghostface Killah? Dude has been calling himself Tony Starks and named his first solo album Ironman for the last ten years. Brother can't get a cameo, or his song on the album?

Ghostface shot something for the movie, but I don't think the scene made the movie. Also, he has a song in the movie because I remember seeing his name during the credits. Don't now which song because I'm not down with the Wu.

When the jet becomes a strip club, that is him singing in the video playing behind the couch.

HB - don't take this the wrong way but coming on this thread just to denigrate a movie you never plan to see makes you look like a miserable prick.

It was a very good movie and the people here who are fans don't really care what you think. I'll probably end up seeing it a second time.

You should work on having a more positive outlook.

I spent all of Sunday afternoon watching Season 1 and then the first two parts of Season 2.
And even the intro that was done for Comic Con.

Saw it last night and enjoyed it, but not as much as I thought I would. As interesting as an origin story always is, I think some of these comic book movies could take a hint from the 1989 Batman. You get the gist of why he is who is from a couple-minute long flashback scene, they show how the Joker became who he is with a 10-minute long action scene and BAM, we're off and rolling.

Too many of these origin stories just leave me saying, "Well, I know the sequel is going to be better." This was one of those.

The special effects were outstanding. Iron Man moved like a true human being, not overly fluidly like you often see (the monsters in "I Am Legend" and Jar Jar Binks jump to mind) and the scene with the Raptors kicked ass.

The acting was also pitch perfect, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony Stark to a tee and Jeff Bridges solid as a villain. Terence Howard needed more screen time, though. At the end, it looks like he's going to be involved in the final sequence when he takes off in the Audi R8 (which was an awesome car by the way), but he's not.

There were, however, some problems with it (SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!):














1) NOT ENOUGH IRON MAN! There are only two scenes with the finished product, which looked awesome. Think he was only in about 15 minutes of the finished film. I also fear there won't be enough of him in the sequel if he teams up with others.

2) Iron Man didn't win the final battle (he actually more or less got his ass kicked), Pepper does. I understand they wanted to avoid the old damsel in distress cliche, but I really think they reduced his "bad-ass factor" by having him get bailed out by someone in high heels.

3) It was quite predictable.

4) They fell into the same trap Spiderman did, which was the need to show the actor's faces too much. Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges had plenty of screen time in the first 1:45 of the flick. The final 20 minutes, I didn't need to see their faces. During the climax, I want to see the superheroes and villains going at it ... not their schlubby (relatively speaking) alter egos.


The pluses outweighed the minuses with this one, but not as by as much as I thought they would.

I would never, ever have seen this based on the previews. Robert Downey? Third-rate superhero? Are you kidding?

But the sucker is at 94 percent on rottentomatoes.com (unheard of for a big-budget movie), and the reviews are fawning. Sounds like a must-see. I love being surprised when movies I expect nothing out of are great.

That's the only reason I went, and I was underwhelmed.

I guess you could say for a superhero movie, it's better than most, but to me they didn't break the mold enough to make me like the genre.

Which, I understand, is a matter of taste, and I've got nothing against people who like that genre.

But my indifference kind of made it pointless for me to stick around for the 45-minute credit sequence, because the eventual surprise meant bupkis to me, beyond the fact there will be a sequel I won't see.

I agree with the guy who said they should have played up the "Iron Man" riff more. The James Bond movie, which ended pretty much the same way, did it a lot better.

"We need someone who can play a pompous rich jerk who drinks too much and has the potential to descend into alcoholism, but who is also a solid actor."

Marvel's casting - aside from ben Affleck as Daredevil - has been pretty spot on. This was as good a decision as Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man.

I think it's one advantage of CGI in that, unlike back when Lou Ferrigno was painted green because he was jacked, studios can look for the actor who best fits the character, not the actor who looks most like the character. When suited up, they're going to be replaced by CGI anyway, so the physical aspect isn't nearly as important as the acting.
