SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A fatal accident involving a Trenton Times delivery truck and a tractor trailer on Route 1 South at Raymond Road has caused at least a two mile backup as authorities continue to investigate the early morning accident.
According to police, the newspaper delivery driver was killed when the tractor trailer driver rear ended his truck on the slightly wet roadway. Allegedly, the tractor trailer driver had looked down at a logged book while traveling on Route 1 South and looked up in time to see he was striking the delivery truck. The delivery truck was pushed into a utility pole and the tractor trailer stopped beyond the delivery truck in a gas station possibly hitting another vehicle.
Police said the tractor trailer driver was seriously injured but his injuries are not life threatening. Officials are not releasing the identity of both drivers as they continue their investigation and the notification of next of kin. One of the witnesses being questioned is a delivery truck driver who was behind the tractor trailer driver who struck the delivery truck.
Exactly when the accident occurred remains sketchy with people at the scene saying it occurred at 3:15 a.m., though motorists passing the accident later in the morning on Route 1 North saying it occurred between 4 or 4:30 a.m.
