Had no idea he did "Something Wild," which was filmed in Tallahassee about 30 years ago.

Saw it recently in vacation. Imagine my surprise in seeing my hometown on a hotel TV in Transylvania.

Quirky/fun action comedy, and Ray Liotta's first significant role. He was a badass even then.

I was in my teens. He scared the **** out of me.

I knew a couple of the police officer extras and the hotel they used -- which is no longer there -- was where a friend of the family stated while in town. Brought back memories.

And when Demme's name flashed on the screen, I realized I had no idea he'd done it.

What an amazing body of work.

Can't remember if I ever saw Something Wild so went to check out a few scenes. Nope. But I was amused by the scene where Griffith buys the booze from the actor who's the white Sedale Threatt.

And his pipe is basically the same one Landa used in Basterds. Pretty funny.

Demme knew how to work with musicians: documentaries with Neil Young, Justin Timberlake, Robyn Hitchcock. He also had one in the works with Arcade Fire journeying to Haiti before the 2010 earthquake ruined their plans.
