Will the obits mention Richard "The Fixer" Perry (Smith/Wooden crossthread).

The NCAA is so well-known for hypocrisy, but I don't think it has ever topped or will ever top the way it dealt with UNLV. The NCAA put the defending champs on probation in July 1990 and barred them from defending the title; then a few months later the sides reached a deal that UNLV could go for that undefeated season and dynasty-making championship, but they were going to be on probation the following year (when everybody would be gone anyway).

Got damn fine ratings against Duke, though.

RIP Tark. Was a big Runnin' Rebels fan back in the day. I grew up in Southern California, but one of the then-independent LA stations would run the UNLV games on tape-delay on Saturday night with Chick Hearn calling the action.

We almost had him at SDSU after he left UNLV -- the AD had all but hired him when Aztecs basketball was at its nadir, but the school president nixed it. It would been interesting to see what he would have done with the program, although the NCAA probably would have opened an office in San Diego if that had happened.

Smith. Tark.

If I am Norm Stewart, John Thompson, Louie C, Nolan Richardson, George Raveling or Bobby Cremins, I probably stay on the couch until this passes.

Tarkanian was always a joy to talk to. Covered his Fresno State teams occasionally and his basketball mind was amazing. The SID at the time told us how he really enjoyed the interaction with the press.

RIP.

Talked to a a former Houston player a while back and unfortunately I think Guy Lewis is a strong candidate

Not sure who the player is just like the shot.

I want to see Tornoe do one with Tark at the gate and both he and Peter are biting on a towel.

Heard on the radio that Vegas will dim the lights to honor Tark. Radio made it sound like that hasn't happened very often. They gave a brief list, including honoring JFK.

When is the 30 for 30 on Augmon throwing that game against Duke?

There was this kid I grew up with; he was younger than me. Sorta looked up to me, you know. We did our first work together, worked our way out of the street. Things were good, we made the most of it. During Prohibition, we ran molasses into Canada... made a fortune, your father, too. As much as anyone, I loved him and trusted him. Later on he had an idea to build a city out of a desert stop-over for GI's on the way to the West Coast. That kid's name was Moe Greene, and the city he invented was Las Vegas. This was a great man, a man of vision and guts. And there isn't even a plaque, or a signpost or a statue of him in that town! Someone put a bullet through his eye. No one knows who gave the order. When I heard it, I wasn't angry; I knew Moe, I knew he was head-strong, talking loud, saying stupid things. So when he turned up dead, I let it go. And I said to myself, this is the business we've chosen; I didn't ask who gave the order, because it had nothing to do with business!
