Father of the Duke player (and UNC player), former coach at Fayetteville State and ODU. Had ALS, Jeff III did a story on it a while back for The Players Tribune

Jeff Capel Jr., former college hoops coach and father of Duke associate coach, dies
Jeff Jr. was a very good man and a better coach than people realize. I had a phone interview set up with him once and my wife got sent to the hospital. He got his home number to me and told me to use it anytime. Three days later, I'm setting up in the pressroom at Scope and he walks in to ask how she's doing. Small details but those of us who do this know they're not really.
When Jeff III won the CAA at VCU, I did a story on Jeff Jr. and his dad being there to watch. Three Jeff Capels on the floor, all of them thrilled. Jeff Jr. was proud as hell of his sons. A terrific family.
This one really saddens me. Only 64.
