When Bush brought him into the Secretary of State, I thought he was going to be the adult in the room. Had a ton of respect for him then and it was horribly disappointing he went along with the WMD line. Not sure what possessed him to do it: If Bush/Cheney got to him and made him or if he really believed. I think Woodward’s book said Powell was pushing to get more evidence but they gave him some nonsense and he couldn’t resist any more. It was a real shame because he could have been the first or second Black president if he didn’t get muddied by the WMD nonsense.
But Iraq aside, he was a great man and a leader of men. F cancer, F Covid. F them both. RIP, general.
