Damn, damn, damn. When I was early in my career at small papers north of Tampa/St. Pete, I played golf one day at a course as a single and was paired with another guy. "Hi, I'm Gary." As a fan of all things Cincinnati through my dad and his brothers, I about fell over. "Oh my gosh, you're Gary Burbank!" He was in Ocala full-time and did his show from an in-house studio, we lived a half-hour apart. We played golf several more times and kept in touch for a few years via email.

RIP to the real voice of Cincinnati radio.

Morning AND afternoon drive shifts for how many years? I had a job like that for just over 12 months and it just about killed me. I'd have to be at the station by 5 a.m. to prep, go home at 9:30, nap for four hours, get up and go back to the station, then try to fall asleep again at 8 p.m.

It felt like I never had any time to myself.

If you ever heard the syndicated bits with Earle Pitts, Real American that was Burbank.

Burbank and Marty Brennaman were the voices of Cincinnati when I lived there in the ‘90s. It was kind of local radio’s swan song, but WLW was still hanging on as one of the best in the business.
