When I was in sixth grade "organized" basketball for that age was a game every week at the local Boys' Club.

It changed when parents decided that travel ball was the way to a scholarship. My daughter is a softball player, 17 years old and she started traveling when she was 14. There are now under 8 travel teams for softball. Amazing. When I was 8 I just wanted to play in the front yard.

My guess would be they go to a lot of the same tournaments.

To me, no group of 6th graders needs to travel 8 hours by car to a tournament more than maybe once a year. I think that the rich guy is wasting his money on the team, but it is his choice.

Dallas Morning News had it months ago, and someone on SI.com did a column on it shortly thereafter. I'm pretty sure I read about it in at least one other place, as well. Reilly did a good job, but he's awfully late to the party.

No, they didn't. They just wrote about the rich team. Reilly does deserve credit for comparing them to the other one.
