Report: Wolfowitz has resigned as president of the World Bank

There are some unclear reports about whether this issue will be resolved today, but here is one piece which claims that the matter shall be decided Sunday:

My take: Get him outta there. His Iraq invasion planning was a failure, and his tenure as World Bank president has been, at best, greeted with a mixed response. Wolfowitz is a highly intelligent man, but he does not seem to possess the character or management skills necessary to run an international organization, particularly one of such importance. On top of that, he has now shown himself to be corrupt, and our country - and the world - needs and deserves transparency and trustworthiness at the top of the W.B. This is not an instance where the U.S. should 'call in favors' to save a figurehead who has tarnished his own credibility to this extent. By unethically using his position as president to obtain an $80K pay raise for his girlfriend, Paul Wolfowitz has placed his presidency of the W.B. in a fatally untenable position.

i'm not kidding when i say that wolfowitz meets all the criteria to be convicted and hung for war crimes. legally he even meets some of the standard for being tried for manslaughter or murder (of the 3,000+ u.s. troops killed). i'm not suggesting it'll ever happen but he's one of an elite few who drove this country straight off the cliff.

During a press conference following today's session of the spring meetings between the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, WB President Paul Wolfowitz expressed his intention to remain at his job despite calls for his resignation.

Wolfowitz was compelled to confess this past Thursday that he used his presidential position to procure a promotion and large pay increase for his girlfriend, Shaha Riza, a World Bank official. This disclosure has brought widespread calls seeking his termination.

President Bush has expressed his support for Wolfowitz in the wake of the scandal.

Wolfowitz now waits for the World Bank's 24 executive directors to complete their investigation into his misconduct. The directors are expected to conclude this work and decide what action to take against the WB president swiftly.

More questionable employment issues surrounding Shaha Ali Riza, Paul Wolfowitz' companion and the recipient of the favoritism which has placed the World Bank president's job in jeopardy.

These revelations concern a Defense Department-guided 2003 Iraq trip by Riza. Once again, Paul Wolfowitz' name is attached to the story.
