Longtime Providence Journal sports editor and Rhode Island native Art Martone has died. A few weeks ago, Martone was stricken with a rare neurodegenerative illness. He was 66.

Failing to put the screws to stringers fast enough or hard enough, then suffering the wrath of corporate vengeance, was probably one of the leading career land mines for sports editors in the 1970s-2000s.

RIP, Art. Sounds like one of the old school good dudes who made the business fun.
