How you you write up a safety in a scoring summary and/or box score?

I realized that I've only had to cover one or two in my career and it's been a while.

Thanks in advance.

TEAM -- Safety

And a safety is worth two points in the box score.

Well I knew it was worth two points silly!

I was just wondering if there was any more description in the scoring summary.

Thanks.

SYR - Safety, ball snapped out of end zone.

SYR - Safety, runner tackled in end zone.

SYR - Safety, int. grounding in end zone (that is a safety, isn't it?)

Hmmm ... never did that before for safeties. Take Moddy's word, FarmerJ.

That's assuming you use the basic scoring summary that lists team, description in order it happened.

Syracuse sucks.

Huh? They're ahead 6-0. How many teams you ever see get three safeties?

Very funny. :P

Today a quarterback was sacked in the endzone thanks to Team B's No. 77. That's pretty much what I was trying to figure out.

Jerk. ;D

Uh, you realize in the above example Syracuse was leading 6-0.

Your example

TEAM THAT GETS THE TWO POINTS - Safety, Jerome tackled in end zone

Thank you sir. I'm just used to Syracuse being that bad. It doesn't occour to me that they'd actually do something right.

Back to the Syracuse bashing. ;)

Moddy's right on that one, and it seems to be the one place in a scoring summary where you may have to "free-form" a little bit in order to explain the safety. Just make the explanation as quick and concise as possible.

If you have the names available, use them. If an individual player makes the tackle, he's credited with two points in the team scoring stats, I believe.

State U: Safety, Johnson tackled in end zone by Smith.

Moddy is right. How AP did it in the Broncos-Raiders game:

Oak—Safety, Cutler sacked by Warren in end zone, 14:15.
