Question for SEs: Outdoors writer

I may be replacing our outdoors columnist who's retiring after 38 years. But if I add that to my current responsibilities I certainly want to be compensated for it (and have already been told I will but not how much). It will probably consist of a column or feature each week. What do you pay your outdoors writer if its a weekly thing? What would be fair?
Any guidance would be appreciated.
