General Responsibilities:
Assist in the roles and proactive approach to develop off-ice / human interest media stories for all aspects of the organization.

Specific Duties:
• Work with Director, Public Relations and Director of Media Relations to develop and create stories regarding players, business, human interest, community, etc.
• Continue to develop and grow relationships with media contacts.
• Write team announcements for off-ice activities, including ticket sales, marketing, corporate sponsorship, youth hockey, community relations, and special events
• Work with Director to pitch non-traditional and human interest stories to media contacts
• Work closely with all departments to properly message any media coverage of events including but not limited to ticket on-sale dates, community relations events, marketing events, organization changes, etc.
• Maintain and update a current database of media contact information as well as pertinent distribution lists.
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, Public Relations or Communication
• Minimum 2-3 years experience in media relations or public relations required.
• Established local business and non-sports media contacts required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self starter.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize projects and multi-task.
• Attention to detail.
• Team oriented.
• Understanding the varying range of media hours which will require the need to respond and act at all times. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as directed by game and events schedule.
• Understanding of hockey and/or a passion for the sports industry is helpful.

Oh well. An understanding of hockey has never been a requirement for a job in the NHL's executive offices, either.

That, coupled with the requirement of having "established local business and non-sports media contacts" in order to "pitch non-traditional and human interest stories to media contacts," means this probably isn't a position where you need to know the +/- leaders in the NHL last season.
