Description:

Chicagotribune.com is seeking a prep sports digital news editor. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in — and working knowledge of — prep sports, particularly in the suburbs of Chicago; possesses excellent news judgement; demonstrates strong social media skills; reacts quickly to breaking news; is able to master multiple CMS and online metrics and analytics tools; is self-motivated and able to manage their time smartly and efficiently; and can work seamlessly across different editorial departments, including suburban bureaus and sports.

This is a temporary position with no formal end date and includes 30-40 hours per week at Tribune Tower, 435 N. Michigan Ave.

The schedule will include weekdays, weekends and nights.

Seems like it was written by someone that doesn't know style ...

If the position is temporary does that mean they aren't giving benefits?

Yep. It's a temporary position that could end at any time. Somewhere between 30-40 hours a week, no benefits, with nighttime and weekend availability expected — severely limiting the second-job opportunities (and you'll need one).

Last but not least, they want you to have "working knowledge" of prep sports in suburban Chicagoland, yet expect you to find your way downtown to the Tribune Tower for night and weekend duties — times when public transit options are scarcer.

Looks like a hell of a gig to me ...
