Kinda creepy...

Some allege Geek Squad agents copy your files

Geek Squad gives its technicians badges, calls them agents and dresses them in a uniform. But some Geek Squad troubleshooters have acted less than police-like with some customers' computer files.
Best Buy's computer trouble-shooters face claims that some technicians copied porn, photos and music from customers.

When Best Buy Co. Inc. bought the Geek Squad five years ago, the two companies pledged to "protect the world from the assault of computerized technology." Geek Squad "agents" even wore badges and drove vehicles resembling police cars.

But as this squadron of techno-nerds has mushroomed into the largest collection of computer troubleshooters in the world, it has become increasingly difficult for the firm to police its own employees.

In recent months, allegations of agents copying pornography, music and alluring photos from customers' computers have circulated on the Internet. Some bloggers now call it the "Peek Squad."Any attractive young woman who drops off her computer with the Geek Squad should assume that her photos will be looked at," said Brett Haddock, a former Geek Squad technician.

Why does this not surprise anyone?
If you don't want anyone to see anything personal you have on your machine, move it off of there before you let it out of your hands.

http://consumerist.com/consumer/geek-squad/ has been all over this (& is mentioned in the article)

[blue]They're Geeks, they need porn off other people's computers, because they can't get sex any other way.[/blue]

These guys are a sham. Took my money, didn't fix my problem and then wouldn't refund the money when I told them it wasn't fixed.

Reason No. 24,225 why I boycott Best Buy for any product that has a chance of going awry.

Well, in my some people's cases, they can't get the computer up and running long enough to delete the porn.

Right. As one of the linked articles says: "If you've got stuff you don't want strangers to see (or copy or steal), encryption is your friend. By the time your PC needs repair, it will be too late to lock down."

I would never, never allow the Geek Squad to come within 100 miles of a computer I own.

A relative of mine has had them work on her computer and each time they created a bigger mess.

Just one more reason I'm glad I am computer literate.
